How this is worked out
Each month’s amount goes in at the start of the month and grows at the monthly version of the yearly return you entered. Money put in early has more months to grow, which is why the growth part gets bigger in the later years.
If you add a yearly raise, the monthly amount goes up by that percentage at the start of each new year.
Read this before you trust the number
- Real returns are not smooth. An equity fund can fall 20% in a bad year and still do well over ten.
- The same calculation works for a gold or silver fund SIP — just enter a return that fits gold.
- Tax is not included. Equity fund gains above ₹1.25 lakh a year are taxed at 12.5% when held over a year.
